Saswitha yoga is a type of hatha yoga in which the breath is the guiding force for the movement. We use dynamic and static exercises to the rhythm of your breath to find stillness in the body. With the stillness of the movement, your thoughts also become quieter. You experience that body, breath and thinking are connected. A Saswitha class consists of classical asanas with variations, concentration, meditation and relaxation exercises.

Hatha yoga is a type of yoga that includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), with the aim of calming the mind and preparing the body for meditation. Literally meaning ‘force’, hatha formed the basis for other branches of yoga that focus on asana practice, such as Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa.
In the Saswitha tradition in which I’m trained, hatha yoga is a form of yoga that assumes unity of body and consciousness, with the breath forming the connection between the two. Saswitha yoga is characterised by the way in which the breath is used as a means to experience the connection within yourself. A yoga class contains a balanced division between standing, sitting and lying postures. You first perform the classical hatha yoga āsana’s dynamically, in preparation for the static posture. In every movement the breath is the guiding force. The concentration on the breath generates a meditative attention that leads to stillness.
All movement possibilities of the spine and joints are covered. In every exercise you look for the right balance between relaxation and strength. The exercises vary from subtle to challenging and can be adapted to everyone’s possibilities. In addition, each class contains relaxation exercises, concentration and meditation, creating a complete experience. In between exercises you will take some time to be still and feel the effect of the exercise. The attention goes inside, to yourself. You become aware of who you really are.
